Midnight rules allow you to extend a 24 hour day on either side of a standard 24-hour day direction to incorporate employees whose clockings fall in this exception.
Determine Time Allocation
First, you will need to determine which side of the midnight work rule you would like to assign the hours worked.
- Shift Start day - Meaning the payable hours will be attributed to the day the employee started their shift.
- eg. Employee 1 started their shift at 10 pm Monday and finished at 6 am on Tuesday
This employee will have 8 payable hours allocated to the Monday
- eg. Employee 1 started their shift at 10 pm Monday and finished at 6 am on Tuesday
- Shift End day - Meaning the payable hours will be attributed to the day the employee ended their shift.
- eg. Employee 2 started their shift at 9 pm Thursday and finished at 5 am on Thursday
Employee 2 will have 8 payable hours allocated to the Tuesday
- eg. Employee 2 started their shift at 9 pm Thursday and finished at 5 am on Thursday

- Click Work rules
- Edit any work rule
- Your work rule will now have a Midnight rule tab on the far right
- Adjust the time extensions on either side of the standard 24 hour day depending on your chosen Time Allocation
- Shift Start Day - Using the example above, we would want to extend the day Over midnight to 6:30 am. Allowing for late clockings.
You would assign this value as 30:30 (6:30 am the next day) - Shift End Day - Using the example above, we would want to start the day Under midnight to 8:30 pm. Allowing for earlier clockings.
You would assign this value as (21:30)* (8:30 pm the previous day)
*Include the brackets
- Shift Start Day - Using the example above, we would want to extend the day Over midnight to 6:30 am. Allowing for late clockings.
